About the position

The Paralegal position within the Department of Law provides advanced litigation support services to a team of attorneys. This role involves assisting with legal documentation, court preparations, and various administrative tasks to ensure effective legal proceedings.

Responsibilities

  • Assists attorneys on prosecution of Metro Codes violations in Environmental Court on a weekly basis.
  • Drafts and reviews pleadings, orders, and other legal documents.
  • Responds to emails and phone calls from clients, citizens, and attorneys.
  • Assists with preparations for court hearings.
  • Researches matters upon request.
  • Assists attorneys by taking notes, organizing files, and performing administrative tasks.
  • Files, serves, and delivers documents with courts and parties and witnesses.
  • Establishes and maintains files and records.
  • Manages databases.
  • Performs other law related support services as required.

Requirements

  • Paralegal Certificate and two (2) years of experience in a legal field.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of civil law and legal procedures.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of the Tennessee court structure and the legal system of the United States.
  • Knowledge of legal writing and research techniques.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage a volume of cases.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to adapt in fast-paced environment.
