About the position

The Employment Law Paralegal will assist attorneys on a broad range of legal issues pertaining to employment law. It is expected that the paralegal's focus will be employment law, but will assist with other areas including intellectual property, litigation, day to day record-keeping, compliance, commercial and other contracts. The position will handle both substantive and administrative tasks such as file management and general clerical duties. The Paralegal will assist with ongoing duties and specific projects as assigned. This position is in-person at one of our offices, either our Corporate Headquarters in New York or at our facility in Parsippany, NJ.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with Human Resources in acquiring employment files for potential litigations.
  • Drafting and filing EEOC charges, corporate documents, commercial contracts and perform preliminary contract review under attorney supervision.
  • Reviews employee severance packages and non-competes.
  • Drafting release agreements under attorney supervision.
  • Researches regulatory issues, assists in investigations, document production, interrogatories, file management and litigation summaries.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for subpoena investigations and QDROS in order to provide official company responses under attorney supervision.
  • Assists attorneys with Intellectual Property enforcement and portfolio maintenance.
  • Prepares powers of attorneys, tend to legalization, review non-disclosure agreements, and serve as the liaison for outside counsel.
  • Assists the local teams in finding solutions to client issues that may lead to potential litigations.
  • Works with the Payroll team with employee overpayments and wage garnishments.
  • Assists Risk Management in workers compensation matters when needed.
  • Partners with counsel in investigating bankruptcy matters.
  • Prepares internal business groups for hearings when needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 2-4 years' experience in an in-house legal department
  • Computer proficiency: Word, Outlook, Excel, Adobe, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding organization and prioritization skills
  • Ability to take direction but work independently
  • Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Attention to detail
