About the position

McKINNON LEGAL is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented paralegal to join our legal team. In this role, you will be instrumental in preparing legal documents, filing motions, and coordinating various law office activities. Your responsibilities will include conducting thorough legal research to support our attorneys and ensuring that all legal documents are meticulously drafted and organized. We are looking for someone who is not only experienced but also passionate about helping clients navigate their legal challenges, particularly in family litigation. You will play a key role in assisting our clients through difficult times, providing them with the support they need to resolve issues related to co-parenting, asset division, and other family law matters. As a paralegal at McKINNON LEGAL, you will work closely with our attorneys to prepare for trials, which includes organizing exhibits, coordinating witnesses, and filing necessary motions. You will also conduct client interviews to gather essential information about their legal problems, ensuring that we have a comprehensive understanding of each case. Your organizational skills will be crucial in maintaining an efficient filing system for all legal documents and handling administrative tasks such as answering phones and managing office communications. We value attention to detail and the ability to manage time effectively, as these skills are vital in a fast-paced legal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Draft legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence such as interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, complaints, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits under the guidance of a lawyer.
  • Coordinate law office activity, including the drafting of subpoenas and coordinating with process servers.
  • Work with lawyers to prepare for trial by conducting research on legal articles, preparing and organizing exhibits, organizing and coordinating witnesses, filing motions, and assisting with client meetings.
  • Hold client interviews to gather information about their legal problems.
  • Take care of administrative tasks such as answering phones and maintaining an organized filing system for all legal documents.

Requirements

  • Must have completed an ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate's degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor's degree desired.
  • Strong preference for candidates who have completed a paralegal professional certification or have an advanced paralegal education.
  • 3 years of experience in legal services under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm setting.
  • Must have great time-management skills and organizational skills.
  • Talented communicator and writer.
