About the position

The Mahoning County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Paralegal to join their team. This full-time position is located at 21 West Boardman Street, Youngstown, OH, and offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $21.55 to $32.29, depending on experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the legal team by preparing and maintaining legal files, both in paper and electronic formats. This includes organizing and filing documents, as well as preparing, typing, entering, proofreading, and processing various legal and administrative correspondence and documents. In addition to document management, the Paralegal will be responsible for communicating with witnesses, opposing counsel, courts, law enforcement agencies, and the general public. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, as the Paralegal will receive and screen visitors and telephone calls, ensuring that all inquiries are handled professionally and efficiently. The position also involves inputting, retrieving, updating, and deleting information using computerized databases, verifying the accuracy and completeness of information, and assisting with various projects for supervisors and assistant prosecuting attorneys. This may include creating spreadsheets, memos, and PowerPoint presentations, as well as assisting in trial preparation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, impeccable integrity, and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining a high level of professionalism. The position may require some evening and weekend hours, as well as travel between the Juvenile Justice Court and Children Services, necessitating a valid driver's license. Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains legal files (both paper & electronic).
  • Organizes and files documents.
  • Prepares, types, enters, proofreads and processes legal and administrative correspondence and documents.
  • Communicates with witnesses, opposing counsel, courts, law enforcement agencies, and the general public.
  • Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls.
  • Inputs, retrieves, updates and deletes information using computerized databases.
  • Verifies information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assists with projects for supervisors and/or assistant prosecuting attorneys, including the creation of spreadsheets, memos, and/or PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assists assistant prosecuting attorneys in trial preparation.
  • Performs all other duties assigned, delegated or required of a paralegal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or other applicable field of study, or Associate's degree in paralegal studies with one to three years of experience in a law office, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Strong sense of professional behavior and work ethic.
  • Impeccable integrity.
  • Proficient in computer and word processing skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check through the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation & Identification and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with MatrixProsecutor and Westlaw is preferred, but not required.
