This is the first level of Paralegal work, primarily focused on protecting the State's interests in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy proceedings. The Paralegal will establish and maintain case files, manage correspondence, prepare and file bankruptcy claims, motions, and objections, track filing deadlines, and respond to taxpayer phone calls. The role requires the ability to identify issues with case files and documentation, and the Paralegal should be prepared to reach out to auditors and other Revenue staff to gather additional information as needed. Essential functions of this position include establishing and maintaining case files, reviewing legal and court documents for completeness and accuracy, compiling and evaluating facts to complete program, legal, and/or court documents, and providing administrative reports and recommendations for new or revised operating policies and procedures. The Paralegal will also review state and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with legal actions and processes. This position is classified under an exclusive bargaining representative and is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
