The Litigation Paralegal II at Kirkland & Ellis is a pivotal role responsible for managing all aspects of large-scale complex litigation. This includes handling a significant volume of documents, assisting with depositions, managing pleadings, privilege logs, and court filings. The paralegal will be tasked with organizing and managing both electronic and hard copy document collections, as well as managing and manipulating data using litigation support software. Legal and factual cite checking is also a critical component of this role, along with trial preparation and attendance. The position requires supervising junior paralegals and litigation teams, necessitating strong leadership and organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple cases and projects effectively. The ideal candidate will thrive in a team-oriented environment with a collaborative focus, ensuring that all aspects of litigation are handled with precision and professionalism. In addition to document management, the Litigation Paralegal II will engage in substantive research, analyzing documents and materials, researching prior testimony and publications of opposing experts, and understanding the rules of procedure for relevant court venues. The role also involves coordinating the preparation and filing of briefs and legal documents, which includes researching local rules, drafting routine filings, checking legal cites for accuracy, and managing the service of process. Interaction with outside entities such as clients, government agencies, expert witnesses, and court personnel is a key aspect of the position, requiring excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships across various stakeholders. The paralegal will also collaborate with litigation and practice support teams, designing and managing databases in Relativity, and overseeing calendaring and task-sharing systems. Trial and hearing preparation is another critical function, where the paralegal will compile and track trial exhibits, prepare pretrial documents, and manage trial transcripts. This role is essential in ensuring that the litigation process runs smoothly and efficiently, contributing to the overall success of the firm's legal efforts.
