About the position

The Paralegal II position within the Special Assault Unit of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is designed for current employees of the office. This role is critical in supporting a trial-intensive workload that focuses on sensitive cases involving sex crimes, trafficking, and felony child abuse. The position is based at the King County Courthouse, with standard working hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and offers the flexibility of telecommuting as business needs allow. As a Paralegal II, the individual will assist prosecutors throughout all phases of trial preparation. This includes preparing, processing, and electronically filing legal documents, as well as generating and sending witness letters and subpoenas. The paralegal will maintain the PbK system to ensure that witness information, court dates, and trial dispositions are up-to-date. Daily work requests will be managed through MyView in PbK, and the paralegal will be responsible for scanning, preparing, Bates stamping, and disseminating discovery materials, including pro se discovery, while adhering to specific electronic guidelines. The role also involves redacting video and audio materials using various software programs, requesting and reviewing jail calls, creating trial exhibits, and setting up necessary equipment for trials. The paralegal will attend witness interviews, take notes, and coordinate with interpreters or translation services as needed. Additionally, the position requires maintaining an overview of the assigned deputy prosecutor's caseload and assisting with processing search warrants in accordance with KCPAO Criminal Division policy. Effective communication is essential, as the paralegal will serve as a liaison among deputy prosecutors, law enforcement, defense attorneys, court personnel, and witnesses. The role also includes arranging travel and housing for witnesses, reviewing legal documents, and explaining legal procedures to victims and the public.
