About the position

AbbVie seeks an Intellectual Property Paralegal - Litigation to join the Legal Division's Intellectual Property Litigation group. This position reports to the Intellectual Property Paralegal Supervisor. The Intellectual Property Litigation Paralegal performs the following with minimal to moderate supervision from either a managing AbbVie Inc. Attorney, Paralegal Supervisor, Senior Paralegal or Senior Paralegal II.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all facets of litigation with moderate oversight from Senior Paralegal II, Paralegal Supervisor, or AbbVie Counsel
  • Preparation, distribution and management of Legal Holds for routine legal matters
  • Coordinate the collection of and analyze Company documents and data for discovery and other requests
  • Coordinate the preparation of Company witnesses for deposition and trial
  • Coordinate all legal team meetings including strategy and status updates, witness interviews and preparation sessions, and mock proceedings
  • Manage resources and cost containment associated with assigned matters, including outside counsel paralegals, support staff, and other vendors
  • Determine the necessity for and selection of eDiscovery vendor services and contract attorney services; coordinate and actively participate in vendor discussions, kick-off calls and status meetings; ongoing review of vendor progress and quality; review and approval of invoices in compliance with billing guidelines for routine matters
  • Assist patent attorneys with US and Ex-US patent office including Oppositions, Inter Partes Reviews and Post Grant Proceedings
  • Respond to Company subpoenas and requests for information with minimal to nominal supervision in compliance with Federal and State rules
  • Coordinates special projects when assigned
  • Collaborates with Attorneys and business stakeholders to find solutions to routine legal issues
  • Coordinates and maintains departmental files (both paper and electronic), as assigned, in compliance with corporate and government regulations
  • Light administrative duties for completing general job responsibilities such as establishing and maintaining file communications, and planning and preparing for meetings with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist in handling, preparation and processing of general administrative matters, including bates labeling, copying, redacting and filing; notarization/legalization responsible for updating various contact lists and verifying/updating data in various databases
  • Assists in identifying and providing support for the development of resources and processes to meet current and future needs of department

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience within a law firm or legal department of a corporation
  • Bachelor's Degree and/or ABA approved Paralegal Certificate
