About the position

EnProVera, a company owned and operated by government veterans with extensive backgrounds in Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, the Military, and the Intelligence Community, is seeking a Paralegal/Legal Assistant III to support the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This role is integral to the nationwide law enforcement initiative aimed at dismantling criminal organizations by removing their tools of crime and depriving them of the proceeds from their illegal activities. The successful candidate will assist attorneys in various capacities, including reviewing case materials, preparing legal documents, and conducting legal research to support the FBI's mission of protecting the American people and upholding the Constitution. In this position, you will be responsible for gathering and analyzing case materials, preparing digests of selected decisions and opinions, and advising attorneys on the strengths and weaknesses of probable cause and potential defenses. You will also investigate facts and laws of cases, search public records, and interview federal agents and law enforcement officers to gather necessary evidence. Your role will involve assisting attorneys in pretrial preparations, managing discovery, and preparing legal pleadings and motions. Additionally, you will organize and manage files, summarize documents and proceedings, and provide training to other personnel as needed. This position requires a commitment to excellence and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining a professional disposition. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legal research and analysis, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. An Active Top-Secret security clearance is preferred, and the position is eligible for a 20% pay differential based on the customer's order for services.

Responsibilities

  • Assists attorney in reviewing case material, gathering and analyzing case material, and preparing a digest of selected decisions/opinions, including legal references.
  • Receives, examines, and evaluates new and complex cases with reference to the facts of the case and established standards.
  • Assists in determining probable cause by reviewing investigative reports and planning a comprehensive approach to obtaining further evidence.
  • Investigates facts and laws of cases, searches public records, and interviews federal agents regarding probable cause for forfeiture.
  • Assists attorney in pretrial preparations by preparing, reviewing, and organizing discovery; managing witnesses; and preparing summaries.
  • Prepares legal pleadings, motions, papers, and proposed orders.
  • Organizes and manages files, documents, and indexing exhibits.
  • Summarizes documents and proceedings, including depositions, interrogatories, and testimony to assist attorneys.
  • Uses various databases and programs to extrapolate data for reports, charts, graphs, and trial exhibits.
  • Provides training to other personnel as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Paralegal Certificate with at least one-year paralegal experience; or High School Diploma/GED with at least three-years' paralegal experience.
  • One-year of automated litigation support experience with knowledge of the capabilities and use of automated resources and technology for federal cases.
  • Knowledge of forfeiture law, policies, and procedures and trial experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methods of legal research and analysis sufficient to perform case development and documentation assignments.
  • Excellent communication skills; oral and written, including legal writing skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and other common software applications, including databases.
  • Proven commitment and expertise to provide excellent customer service; positive and flexible; ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, deliver the highest quality of work, and maintain a professional disposition under extreme pressure.
