About the position

The Legal Assistant/Paralegal position at a small boutique law firm in Salem, OR, focuses on probate law, including guardianships, probates, conservatorships, and estate planning. The role offers both part-time and full-time opportunities, with the potential for remote work after a six-month probation period. Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with case preparation and management
  • Manage and organize case files and documentation
  • Draft legal documents, including petitions, motions, briefs, trust reports, and estate planning documents
  • Review client financial statements
  • Prepare accountings and financial statements for guardianships and conservatorships
  • Conduct legal research and gather relevant information
  • Communicate with courts, financial advisors, and other parties as needed
  • Assist clients with funding according to attorney instructions
  • Communicate with clients and act as their primary point of contact
  • Create client binders and polished final products for estate planning files
  • Scan client documents and maintain organized client files
  • Schedule appointments and manage calendars
  • Support the firm in administrative tasks as required

Requirements

  • Degree or certification from higher education related to job duties
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal in probate law
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently or as a team member
  • Excellent grammar, proofreading, and English composition skills
  • Critical thinking, research, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, specifically Word, Excel, and Adobe
  • Proficiency with case management applications, such as Clio
