About the position

Lusk & Lusk, LLC is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join our team in Huntsville, AL. This full-time position is essential for supporting our Divorce Law Firm, where you will play a crucial role in assisting attorneys with various legal tasks related to domestic and family law. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality legal support. As a Paralegal/Legal Assistant, you will be responsible for drafting pleadings and motions, preparing client discovery responses, and processing opposing party discovery responses. You will also be involved in transcription of attorney dictation, inputting billable tasks into our legal billing software, and managing attorney calendars and appointments, including court hearings. Your role will require you to meet with clients for discovery review and trial preparation, ensuring that all necessary documentation is in order and that clients are well-informed throughout the legal process. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, is essential, along with fast typing skills. Familiarity with Alafile and Alacourt is preferred, as these tools will aid in your daily tasks. This position offers an opportunity to grow within the legal field while working closely with experienced attorneys in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Draft pleadings and motions for domestic and family law cases.
  • Prepare clients' discovery responses, including answers to interrogatories and responses to requests for production.
  • Process opposing party's discovery responses, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Transcribe attorney dictation for various legal documents.
  • Input billable tasks into legal billing software accurately and timely.
  • Prepare professional correspondence to clients and third parties.
  • Manage attorney calendars, appointments, and court hearings effectively.
  • Meet with clients for discovery review and trial preparation, providing necessary support and guidance.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies or a related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1 year of paralegal experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word.
  • Strong typing skills and fast word processing abilities.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with office billing preferred.
  • Familiarity with Alafile and Alacourt preferred.
