About the position

The position involves providing comprehensive support in the legal department, focusing on the review, editing, drafting, and proofreading of legal documents, including commercial contracts. The role also includes managing vendor contracts, ensuring compliance, and improving business processes within the department. The individual will coordinate meetings, maintain confidentiality, and support corporate governance matters, while actively contributing to the credit union's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Review, edit, draft, and proofread legal documents, including commercial contracts and correspondence.
  • Assist in the development or improvement of templates, business processes, and policies.
  • Act as an administrator for the vendor contract repository and identify legal risks.
  • Ensure vendors adhere to onboarding processes and perform necessary follow-ups.
  • Organize the vendor management process and suggest improvements for compliance.
  • Maintain organized records by monitoring status, documenting actions, and preparing reports.
  • Resolve administrative problems using independent problem-solving techniques.
  • Coordinate and prepare meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all matters.
  • Collaborate with other departments and outside counsel.
  • Respond to requests from internal and external parties.
  • Accept ownership for accomplishing new requests and adding value to job accomplishments.
  • Collaborate on the contract management system and prepare various documents.
  • Review and interpret account-related paperwork and legal documents.
  • Support corporate governance matters, including board meetings and documentation.
  • Monitor corporate governance developments with oversight from senior management.
  • Lead or assist with project management for legal department projects.
  • Perform other legal operations tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Associates degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience providing direct support to boards of directors and executive management.
  • 5-7 years of experience working as a paralegal in a corporate legal department.
  • Paralegal certificate from an accredited program required (J.D. degree also accepted).
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using administrative and legal technology with a quick learning ability.
  • Time management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Flexibility and efficiency in work processes.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with credit unions and financial institutions preferred.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements or contracts under attorney supervision strongly preferred.
