About the position

The Insurance Defense Litigation Paralegal/Legal Assistant will support attorneys in a Texas law firm by organizing cases, drafting legal documents, and communicating with various parties involved in litigation. This full-time position requires a proactive individual who can manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively while working under the supervision of assigned attorneys.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and analyze case files and records according to firm procedures.
  • Draft legal documents including FOIA requests, notices, discovery, pleadings, affidavits, subpoenas, and trial exhibits for attorney review.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors to obtain medical records and other necessary documentation via subpoenas and depositions.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, court personnel, and other parties involved in cases.
  • Maintain electronic case files and ensure proper indexing, filing, and scanning procedures are followed.
  • Coordinate multiple calendar schedules for attorneys and manage appointments related to cases.
  • Assist in client meetings, hearings, mediations, and trials as assigned.
  • Log and submit case time and expense billing for case files.
  • Present information clearly and respond to inquiries from attorneys, clients, and vendors.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certificate preferred but not required.
  • Four-year undergraduate degree preferred but not required.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in insurance defense matters as a paralegal in a Texas law firm.
  • Knowledge of litigation discovery processes.
  • Typing speed of at least 65 WPM.
  • Exceptional computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Software.
  • Experience with timekeeping and billing systems.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and state and federal e-filing procedures.

  • Full-time position with a consistent schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm CST.
