About the position

Our client, a prestigious Tampa firm, is seeking an experienced paralegal for their medical malpractice/insurance defense practice group. This role is integral to the firm's operations, providing essential support to attorneys and ensuring that all legal processes run smoothly. The paralegal will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks that require a high level of customer service and support, while consistently producing an excellent work product. The Paralegal will maintain a general knowledge of the litigation practice groups and a specialized knowledge of the assigned attorneys' practice area(s), specifically in medical malpractice and insurance defense. This specialized knowledge is crucial for ensuring extraordinary client satisfaction and effective case management. The role involves assisting attorneys with the preparation of legal documents, creating, editing, and proofreading work products to ensure accuracy, and coordinating with attorneys regarding deadlines and preparation for trials. Additionally, the paralegal will be responsible for tracking and entering billable and non-billable hours on a daily basis, which is essential for the firm's billing processes. Maintaining the highest level of confidentiality of all firm and client information, records, and files is a critical aspect of this position. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical malpractice and insurance defense, along with the necessary skills to thrive in a fast-paced legal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with preparation of legal documents.
  • Create, edit, and proofread work product to ensure accuracy.
  • Coordinate with attorneys regarding deadlines and preparation for trials.
  • Track and enter billable and non-billable hours on a daily basis.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality of all Firm and client information, records, and files.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience in the area of medical malpractice/insurance defense or general defense litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and Florida state court rules.
  • Experience in a mid- to large-size firm preferred.
  • Previous trial experience is required.
  • Experience with legal software (i.e. Xera, Concordance) is desired.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with a document management system and time entry system.
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • BA/BS preferred, but not required.
