About the position

The Paralegal position at ACI Federal Inc. involves working in a government office setting, which necessitates passing several background checks, including a Criminal History Background Check, Credit Check, Financial Debt Check, and a Public Trust Check. The role is full-time, requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week, excluding Federal holidays. The hourly pay for this position is $23.12. As a Paralegal, you will work under the supervision of a Supervisory Paralegal or Project Supervisor, performing a variety of tasks that are essential for supporting attorneys in their legal work. Your responsibilities will include compiling, preparing, and summarizing relevant materials for use in discovery and the preparation of legal documents such as motions, briefs, and other filings. You will also be responsible for summarizing depositions and maintaining organized case files. Legal research, although simple, will be part of your duties, along with indexing and tracking document discovery, which includes managing documents produced and received during the discovery process. In addition to document management, you will assist attorneys in the courtroom, review documents for relevance and privilege, and prepare legal documents using established templates. Your role will also involve routine document center support functions, such as photocopying, assembling notebooks, and managing case materials. You will be expected to maintain a calendar of active cases, schedule appointments, and assist in producing discovery materials for opposing counsel. Furthermore, you will utilize various software applications to manage and organize case materials effectively. Overall, this position requires a detail-oriented individual who can handle multiple tasks efficiently while adhering to established legal procedures and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Works under the direction of Supervisory Paralegal or Project Supervisor.
  • Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
  • Summarizes depositions and other transcripts.
  • Maintains case files and performs simple legal research.
  • Indexes, tracks, and controls document discovery, including documents produced and received in discovery.
  • Prepares exhibit cross-references and assists attorneys in the courtroom.
  • Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria.
  • Prepares legal documents using templates, such as motions, memoranda, subpoenas, and discovery documents.
  • Performs routine document center support functions, such as photocopying, delivering items, and assembling notebooks.
  • Provides trial preparation assistance to client attorneys by compiling trial notebooks and preparing jury instructions.
  • Opens and closes case files, organizes case files, and records material for disposition or storage.
  • Maintains calendar of active cases and case attorneys by scheduling appointments and providing reminders.
  • Assists client attorneys in producing discovery to opposing counsel.
  • Maintains, manages, and organizes case material utilizing software, including databases and spreadsheets.
  • Sorts incoming mail and prepares outgoing mail, including packaging boxes for shipment.
  • Files pleadings using the Electronic Filing system.
  • Completes all aspects of travel in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations (FTR) and client policies.

Requirements

  • Ability to pass Criminal History Background Check, Credit Check, Financial Debt Check, and Public Trust Check.
  • Experience working in a legal environment or as a paralegal is preferred.
  • Proficiency in legal research and document preparation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with FOIA and Congressional inquiries.
  • Knowledge of Federal Travel Regulations (FTR).
  • Familiarity with electronic filing systems.
