About the position

The Paralegal position at ACI Federal involves working in a government office setting, which necessitates passing several background checks, including a Criminal History Background Check, Credit Check, and Public Trust Check. The role is designed to support attorneys in various legal tasks, ensuring compliance with established procedures and contributing to the overall efficiency of legal operations. The Paralegal will work under the supervision of a Supervisory Paralegal or Project Supervisor, performing a range of responsibilities that include compiling, preparing, and summarizing relevant materials for use in legal proceedings. This includes assisting in the preparation of motions, briefs, and other legal documents, as well as summarizing depositions and maintaining case files. The position also requires performing simple legal research and managing document discovery processes, which involves indexing, tracking, and controlling documents produced and received during discovery phases. In addition to document management, the Paralegal will prepare legal documents using templates, ensuring that all recurring legal documents conform to the required style and format. Routine document center support functions are also part of the role, including photocopying, assembling notebooks, and managing case materials. The Paralegal will assist attorneys in trial preparation by compiling trial notebooks, preparing jury instructions, and drafting witness and exhibit lists. The role requires maintaining an organized calendar of active cases, scheduling appointments, and providing reminders for court appearances. The position demands proficiency in various software applications, including databases and word processing tools, to manage and organize case materials effectively. The Paralegal will also handle mail sorting and filing pleadings using the Electronic Filing system. Additionally, the role includes managing travel arrangements in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations, ensuring all travel-related documentation is completed accurately. This position is full-time, requiring 40 hours of work per week, excluding Federal holidays, and offers an hourly rate of $23.12.

Responsibilities

  • Compile, prepare, and summarize relevant materials for attorneys in discovery and preparation of legal documents.
  • Summarize depositions and other transcripts.
  • Maintain case files and perform simple legal research.
  • Index, track, and control document discovery, including documents produced and received in discovery.
  • Prepare exhibit cross-references and assist attorneys in courtroom activities.
  • Review documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines.
  • Compile documents for FOIA, production requests, and Congressional inquiries.
  • Prepare legal documents using templates, ensuring compliance with style and format rules.
  • Perform routine document center support functions, including photocopying and assembling notebooks.
  • Provide trial preparation assistance by compiling trial notebooks and preparing jury instructions.
  • Open and close case files, organizing them for disposition or storage.
  • Maintain a calendar of active cases and schedule appointments for attorneys.
  • Assist attorneys in producing discovery to opposing counsel.
  • Manage and organize case material using software applications.
  • Sort and prepare incoming and outgoing mail, including packaging for shipment.
  • File pleadings using the Electronic Filing system.
  • Complete travel arrangements in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience; trial experience is very helpful.
  • Automated litigation support experience is valued.
  • Basic legal knowledge, including standard legal citation and legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of various computer applications, including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure.
