About the position

The Paralegal position in the Civil Division of the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office is responsible for providing essential paralegal support to the Prosecutor and Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys. The role primarily focuses on managing public records requests and includes various civil paralegal tasks such as legal research, drafting legal documents, and assisting with civil discovery processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, process, and respond to public records requests.
  • Conduct legal research on various topics and draft legal documents including affidavits, notices, complaints, and motions.
  • Assist with civil discovery by drafting documents to request and respond to discovery requests.
  • Prepare forfeiture petitions and supporting documents.
  • Assist with foreclosure actions on behalf of the Delaware County Treasurer.
  • Draft violation letters and perform title research for zoning violations.
  • Prepare and draft nuisance resolutions and related legal documents.
  • Enter and maintain civil matters in the Prosecutor's Office Matrix case management system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Prosecuting Attorney and Chief Civil Assistant Prosecutor.

Requirements

  • Paralegal Certificate or equivalent licensure.
  • Under 1 year of legal experience, preferably in civil law.
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to operate normal office equipment such as computers and fax machines.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Delaware County, Ohio government structure and legal processes.
  • Experience with the Matrix case management system.
  • Demonstrated integrity and reliability with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • General knowledge of the Ohio Revised Code and court processes in Ohio.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure.
  • Superior interpersonal skills for effective communication with the public and colleagues.
