About the position

The Paralegal Specialist in Financial Litigation at the Department of Justice's U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania is responsible for providing comprehensive legal support to Assistant U.S. Attorneys involved in criminal and civil enforcement related to financial litigation. This role includes preparing legal documents, conducting interviews, processing debt collection claims, and performing legal research. The position offers opportunities for professional growth and increased responsibilities as the individual gains experience.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing a variety of substantive legal documents.
  • Conducting interviews of debtors, employers, and agency officials.
  • Processing debt collection claims.
  • Making decisions for debt compromise, write-off, and referral of claims.
  • Enforcing criminal judgment and commitment orders.
  • Serving as the contact person for Financial Litigation cases.
  • Monitoring the progress of pending cases.
  • Independently performing extensive and thorough legal research into legislative history, precedent cases, decisions, and opinions that may be applicable to particular legal matters.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or National status.
  • One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in paralegal or legal work in financial litigation.
  • A Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field, or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered.
