About the position

The Paralegal Support Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of paralegal support management within the Intellectual Property, Insurance Transactional & Regulatory, Insurance & Reinsurance, and Privacy & Cyber practice groups. This role ensures that lawyers receive the appropriate level of skilled paralegal support for client work, from selection and onboarding through the entire employee lifecycle. The manager fosters a collaborative culture that aligns with firm objectives and serves as the point of contact for Legal Support Administration in their local office.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and manage all aspects of paralegal staff management, including hiring, development, direct supervision, and performance management.
  • Provide leadership and direction to assigned practice group(s) paralegal staff, including resource assignment, schedule management, performance management, and compensation decisions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of practice group operations and ensure paralegal staff have the right skills and training to support the needs of the practice group.
  • Monitor and analyze paralegal performance metrics to identify trends, improve efficiency, and develop strategies to enhance service delivery to clients.
  • Conduct regular check-ins and touchpoints with paralegal staff and attorneys, partnering with Human Resources for policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Collaborate with managers of the Legal Support Administration teams to ensure optimal work assignment for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work closely with management, attorneys, and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Support employee engagement through team building, community service, and other relevant site initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in experience and/or training.
  • Previous law firm experience, including advanced knowledge in intellectual property (patent prosecution and trademark), docketing, and litigation procedures.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive management experience, preferably within a legal/professional services environment.
  • Experience leading resources supporting multiple individuals in multiple locations and/or priorities.
  • Strong collaborative leadership and management skills with the ability to build productive relationships and communicate effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of practice level technology is a plus.
  • Strong supervisory skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

  • Competitive salary range of $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 based on experience and qualifications.
