About the position

The Paralegal Support I position plays a crucial role in supporting the Office of General Counsel (OGC) by conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and providing litigation support. This role involves analyzing legal statutes and regulations, responding to legal inquiries, and assisting in the preparation of legal materials related to national security and government policies. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain productive relationships with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct moderately complex research and analysis on subjects affecting ODNI's duties and responsibilities.
  • Draft legal correspondence, memoranda, affidavits, and summaries of legal research and analysis.
  • Present informal briefings and prepare slide presentations for attorneys.
  • Provide litigation support in administrative proceedings and respond to FOIA requests.
  • Assist in planning and organizing activities related to legal document preparation.
  • Update and maintain databases and case files in compliance with storage systems.
  • Complete administrative forms and function as a note taker during depositions and hearings.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with co-workers and clients.
  • Monitor and assign actions requiring OGC legal review using a web-based task tracking system.
  • Transcribe digital recordings and other documents as needed.

Requirements

  • Paralegal Certification or three years of experience as a Paralegal, Legal Assistant/Technician, or Law Clerk.
  • Experience conducting electronic legal research on Westlaw and Lexis.
  • Experience using PACER or other electronic court docket systems.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical functions and procedures.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook).
  • Experience reviewing and summarizing complaints and court orders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Legal and legislative research skills, including familiarity with congress.gov and US Code resources.
  • Knowledge of Congressional and Executive Branch processes regarding legislation.
  • Familiarity with legislative proposals and related documents.
