About the position

The Trademark Paralegal will support the IP&T Practice Group of an AM100 law firm, assisting both local practitioners and the national team. This role involves preparing and filing trademark documents, conducting searches, and managing client correspondence, while reporting to the Practice Group Leader.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file U.S. trademark documents with the USPTO, including applications, office action responses, statements of use, renewals, assignments, and powers of attorney.
  • Conduct trademark screening searches using third-party platforms and common law searches.
  • Correspond with clients regarding trademark prosecution and maintenance matters.
  • Assist attorneys in TTAB filings, including extensions, consent motions, and oppositions.
  • Prepare and file international trademark documents with WIPO, including applications, renewals, and responses.
  • Coordinate with foreign counsel on trademark prosecution and maintenance outside the U.S.
  • Prepare and record ownership and name change documents related to trademarks.
  • Conduct due diligence on trademark portfolios and prepare customs registrations with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.
  • Assist with trademark enforcement, including oppositions, cancellations, and cease and desist letters.
  • Monitor attorney dockets and manage deadlines.
  • Prepare and file copyright applications as needed.
  • Accurately record billable hours in line with firm billing protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 4-10 years of experience in a trademark department, with at least 4 years of trademark prosecution experience; copyright experience is a plus.
  • Strong research, writing, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and work under pressure.
  • Strong work ethic with a willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Professional demeanor and attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet minimum billable hour requirements.
  • Experience with document management software, PDF tools, and timekeeping software is required.
