About the position

Duane Morris LLP, a global law firm with over 900 attorneys, is seeking a Paralegal to support its trial team in all phases of litigation. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of complex litigation experience, particularly in large case management, trial preparation, document production, discovery, and trial exhibits. The role involves a variety of responsibilities that are critical to the success of the trial team. The Paralegal will be responsible for drafting legal documents such as notices and summonses, administering and overseeing document inspections at the request of counsel, and conducting thorough legal research. This includes analyzing case law, Shepardizing cases, and cite-checking briefs. The Paralegal will also communicate with court personnel regarding the status of cases and will be tasked with electronically editing and proofreading documents that are to be filed in court. In addition to these duties, the Paralegal will prepare, organize, and file documents and correspondence with the court, maintain docketing and filing systems, and prepare materials for witness preparation. The role requires organizing relevant documents for attorney review, preparing for depositions, and drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs. Administrative duties such as managing calendars, organizing case files, and tracking billable and non-billable time are also essential functions of this position. The Paralegal will assist attorneys with interrogatories and other discovery requests, and will play a key role in facilitating communication between trial teams and third parties.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, organize, and file documents and correspondence with the court
  • Conduct legal research
  • Update and maintain docketing and filing as well as internal databases
  • Prepare witness and other materials for case preparation
  • Organize relevant documents for attorney review and case preparation
  • Prepare for depositions, including the preparation of discovery requests; facilitate service of process and coordinating examinations before trial (EBT)
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs
  • Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics, etc.)
  • Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes
  • Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices
  • Aid attorneys with interrogatories and other discovery requests
  • Assist between trial teams and internal/external third parties; conducts investigations; engage in on-line legal research; develop pleadings; prepare motions and other pertinent legal documents/forms for review by assigned attorney; assist in discovery
  • Accurately and consistently track and record all related billable and non-billable time
  • Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices

Requirements

  • Certification or associate's degree in paralegal studies (bachelor's degree is preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 - 8 years' experience in a paralegal role
  • Experience working with experts, including preparing materials and trial preparation
  • Familiarity with medical records and preparing related chronologies
  • Previous experience attending trial(s)
  • Investigative mind and strong factual research skills
  • Working knowledge of legal database software
  • Experience in preparing legal reports
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Relativity and Word
