About the position

The paralegal position at CACI is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual looking to grow within the organization. In this role, you will collaborate with teams of USAO attorneys in both the Criminal and Civil Units, handling a wide variety of litigation support tasks. Your responsibilities will range from basic tasks such as preparing and filing documents with courts, to more complex duties including redacting and protecting privileged information, conducting factual and legal research, and assisting in witness interviews, depositions, and trial preparation. You will be involved in preparing binders, indexing discovery, and preparing evidentiary exhibits, as well as providing in-courtroom assistance. Typical assignments for this position include preparing legal documents using templates, such as motions, memoranda, subpoenas, and discovery documents. You will also perform routine document center support functions, which involve photocopying, delivering items, assembling notebooks, and managing case files. Additionally, you will assist AUSAs in trial preparation by compiling trial notebooks, preparing jury instructions, and drafting witness and exhibit lists. Maintaining a calendar of active cases, scheduling appointments, and managing case materials using various software applications will also be part of your responsibilities. You will be expected to file pleadings using the Electronic Court Filing system (ECF) and handle all aspects of travel in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations and DOJ policies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare legal documents using templates, such as motions, memoranda, subpoenas, and discovery documents.
  • Perform routine document center support functions, including photocopying, delivering items, and assembling notebooks.
  • Provide trial preparation assistance to AUSAs by compiling trial notebooks and preparing jury instructions.
  • Open and close case files, organizing them for disposition or storage.
  • Maintain a calendar of active cases and schedule appointments for AUSAs.
  • Assist AUSAs in producing discovery to defense counsel.
  • Manage and organize case material using software, including databases and spreadsheets.
  • Sort and prepare incoming and outgoing mail, including packaging boxes for shipment.
  • File pleadings using the Electronic Court Filing system (ECF).
  • Complete travel arrangements and submit local mileage claims in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations.

Requirements

  • Requires a paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed.
  • One year of legal training or experience, or at least two years of college education may substitute for the paralegal certificate.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience related to the task order is required; trial experience is very helpful.
  • Basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation and legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
