Kiernan Trebach LLP, a respected Civil Litigation Defense Law Firm located in Washington, DC, is seeking a dedicated Workers' Compensation and Litigation Paralegal to join our team. This full-time position is ideal for candidates with 2-5 years of relevant experience in the field. As a Paralegal, you will play a crucial role in supporting multiple lawyers with their workers' compensation matters in the DMV area. In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are essential to the legal process. You will review and analyze new case files and medical records, gather medical records and other discovery materials through subpoenas and authorizations, and track and organize discovery materials for counsel, experts, and witnesses. Additionally, you will assist attorneys with trial preparation, conduct legal research, and serve guardianship notices to patients in local facilities. Maintaining organization and management of files in our document management system, along with performing general office administration functions, will also be part of your responsibilities. This position requires a proactive work style, with the ability to anticipate the needs of attorneys and prioritize tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and analyzing new case files and medical records.
  • Gathering medical records and other discovery via subpoenas, authorizations, and social media.
  • Tracking, organizing, and preparing discovery materials for counsel, experts, and other witnesses.
  • Assisting attorneys with trial preparation.
  • Conducting legal research.
  • Serving guardianship notices to patients in local facilities.
  • Organizing and maintaining files in the document management system.
  • Performing general office administration functions.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience as a Paralegal.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Workers' Compensation process in DC, MD, and VA.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation and service of subpoenas in DC, MD, and VA jurisdictions.
  • Creative thinking and strong research skills.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and attention to detail.
  • Experience with legal research programs such as Lexis Nexis.
  • Significant experience obtaining medical records, preparing medical chronologies, and deposition summaries.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Proactive work style with initiative to anticipate attorney needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Paralegal Certificate/Licensure (a plus).
