State Farm is seeking a dedicated and skilled paralegal to join our in-house counsel team, Nicholas J. Ryan & Associates, specifically within the BI/UM team. This role is crucial in supporting our legal operations, particularly in the realm of Insurance Defense. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of Insurance Defense Discovery procedures and litigation processes, as well as familiarity with local court rules. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to navigate a fast-paced, paperless work environment where time-sensitive tasks are the norm. Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with file handling using knowledge of discovery and litigation processes.
  • Draft routine pleadings, discovery, motions, and other documents as assigned by attorneys.
  • Collect and review medical records in assigned files, utilizing understanding of medical terminology and typical injuries.
  • Develop skills in trial presentation technology to assist attorneys in trial preparation and presentation.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while working in a team-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • Prior litigation or paralegal experience is required.
  • Paralegal degree/certificate/certification, medical training, or relevant coursework or legal studies degree is required.
  • 3+ years of paralegal Discovery and trial experience, preferably in Insurance Defense.
  • Basic knowledge of discovery and litigation processes in the state of operation.
  • Basic understanding of civil procedure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Plaintiff's personal injury cases will be considered.
  • Strong software/technological skills.
