About the position

The position involves providing comprehensive support to attorneys in various aspects of litigation, including case preparation, management, and execution. The role requires a strong understanding of legal principles and practices, as well as the ability to manage documentation and communication effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain, review, analyze, and summarize legal documentation pertaining to cases.
  • Schedule depositions and meetings with clients, witnesses, experts, and opposing counsel.
  • Identify, locate, interview, and evaluate potential experts, sending expert packages for review.
  • Track requests for documents and follow up on progress.
  • Review files and proactively work to advance cases.
  • Document files and update clients on case status.
  • Prepare disclosure certificates and production of disclosure documents.
  • Organize trial exhibits and large document sets.
  • Gather information from public sources such as police departments and governmental entities.
  • Participate in all aspects of discovery and trial preparation as required.
  • Maintain an expert database and conduct research on opposing counsel's experts.
  • Make travel arrangements and provide necessary information to attorneys.
  • Perform research on legal issues and precedents related to cases.
  • File documents with various courts.
  • Perform clerical duties such as typing and filing as needed.
  • Enter billable time into the computer daily, meeting a minimum billing requirement of 140 hours per month.
  • Participate in non-billable functions such as strategic committees and mentoring new employees.
  • Ensure all functions are performed in accordance with client guidelines.
  • Remain flexible to support requests outside of the job description.

Requirements

  • Completion of an associate's degree or certified paralegal education.
  • Knowledge of legal principles and practices for case management.
  • Familiarity with various courts, their rules, and filing requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with attorneys, staff, and clients.
  • Demonstrated organizational, prioritization, and attention to detail skills.
  • Ability to maintain integrity in confidential matters.
  • Typing ability of 45 wpm and experience with computer and office equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a legal environment or law firm setting.
  • Familiarity with legal research tools and databases.
