About the position

The Paralegal position at Godbey Giardina Law Group is designed to support the management, documentation, and organization of cases related to insurance company disputes. This role is integral to the firm, as it involves close collaboration with clients, attorneys, support staff, experts, and the court to facilitate both litigation and prelitigation claim management. The successful candidate will gain substantial experience in task management, critical thinking, and problem-solving, while also developing the ability to communicate complex issues clearly to colleagues at all levels. In this position, the paralegal will serve as a single point of contact for clients, addressing their inquiries and gathering necessary information or documentation. Responsibilities include preparing legal correspondence, organizing and maintaining documents in both paper and electronic filing systems, and reviewing incoming materials to determine the urgency and need for various legal documents. The paralegal will also prepare and track legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, and appeals, and assist in preparing for hearings, depositions, and trials by organizing exhibits and affidavits. Additionally, the role requires investigating facts and laws pertinent to cases, meeting with clients and professionals to discuss case details, filing pleadings with the court, and managing the law office's activities, including the delivery of subpoenas and scheduling meetings. The paralegal will also be responsible for maintaining a calendar of active cases, tracking important dates, and arranging travel for attorneys as needed. Proficiency in various office software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro, is essential, as the paralegal will produce a variety of written documents and materials, ensuring accuracy in format and grammar.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a single point of contact for clients to ask questions and provide information or documentation.
  • Prepare legal correspondence such as letters, demands, and breach notices.
  • Organize and maintain documents in paper or electronic filing systems.
  • Review incoming material and determine the need for assembly and preparation of legal documents.
  • Obtain needed information from clients, files, experts, and insurance companies, and submit completed legal documents to the appropriate attorney.
  • Prepare and track legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, and appeals.
  • Prepare for hearings, depositions, and trials by assembling and organizing exhibits and affidavits.
  • Investigate facts and law of cases and search pertinent sources to determine causes of action.
  • Meet with clients and other professionals to discuss case details.
  • File pleadings with the court clerk.
  • Gather and analyze research data, such as statutes and legal articles.
  • Direct and coordinate law office activity, including delivery of subpoenas and meetings.
  • Perform docketing duties such as opening, updating, and closing cases.
  • Obligate funds for litigation expenses and monitor for necessity.
  • Review bills and invoices and submit to budget office for payment.
  • Maintain calendar of assigned active cases and track filing, hearing, and trial dates.
  • Arrange travel by preparing itineraries and securing transportation and hotel reservations.
  • Produce a variety of written documents utilizing office software, ensuring proper format and grammar.

Requirements

  • Prefer a paralegal certificate or bachelor's degree.
  • Significant work experience equivalent to the above education (generally at least four to seven years of experience as a paralegal).
  • Experience working with insurance companies and managing insurance claims is highly desirable.
  • Basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation.
  • Experience with legal research tools such as Westlaw.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing and databases.
  • Experience working with MyCase or a similar electronic case management system.
