About the position

The Maine Commission on Public Defense Services is seeking a paralegal to support multiple attorneys in the Capital Region Public Defender Office located in Augusta. This role is essential for providing efficient, high-quality representation to indigent citizens entitled to counsel at state expense. The paralegal will perform case preparation, investigative tasks, and manage communications with various stakeholders, ensuring effective assistance of counsel in a fast-paced legal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to multiple attorneys in case preparation and investigative tasks.
  • Communicate with court officials, law enforcement, legal and social agencies, and clients.
  • Manage legal document preparation, document management, and record keeping.
  • Assist in data management, file management, and calendar management.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team while adapting to rapid changes.

Requirements

  • Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work with knowledge of legal processes.
  • Ability to research complex legal issues and analyze legal problems.
  • Graduation from an approved, accredited paralegal program of instruction.
