About the position

The University of New Mexico Office of University Counsel is seeking an experienced Paralegal to support attorneys in medical professional liability litigation matters related to the UNM Health System. This role requires a strong understanding of legal procedures, document management, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic academic health center environment.

Responsibilities

• Support OUC attorneys in medical professional liability litigation matters.
• Prepare discovery responses and assist in trial preparation.
• Manage documents and cases, including calendaring and online research.
• Utilize electronic databases and legal-use software effectively.
• Summarize medical records as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties specified.
• Completed degrees from an accredited institution may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Nice-to-haves

• Ability to prepare routine legal opinions and position statements for attorney review.
• Independently prepare standard contracts and settlement agreements for attorney review.
• Draft standard pleadings and discovery responses.
• Interact directly with other university departments on legal matters.
