About the position

The Paralegal position at the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada involves performing paraprofessional legal support work that is crucial to the agency's operations. This role includes conducting legal research, preparing legal documents, assisting in case preparation, and coordinating assigned programmatic areas. The paralegal will also be responsible for maintaining and responding to all public record requests, as well as keeping accurate records of all legal inquiries and other requests. The position is exempt from FLSA regulations, indicating that it is not eligible for overtime pay. The working conditions may require the paralegal to work shifts on days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and there is an option for a voluntary remote work day once a week, available only after the probationary period is completed. The successful candidate will be expected to manage a variety of legal tasks, including providing litigation support in civil matters, assisting with complex transactional, regulatory, or legislative matters, and drafting various legal documents such as response letters, tender letters, and requests for production. The paralegal will also maintain case calendars, ensuring that all deadlines are met, and will establish a filing system for organizing legal documents and correspondence. Additionally, the role requires overseeing the records management program for the RTC, processing public records requests, and ensuring compliance with NRS guidelines. The paralegal will need to stay updated on changes in case law and legislation regarding records management and public records requests, providing necessary updates to staff as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform legal research and prepare legal documents.
  • Assist in case preparation and coordinate assigned programmatic areas.
  • Maintain and respond to public record requests.
  • Maintain records of all legal inquiries and other requests.
  • Provide litigation support in civil matters.
  • Draft response letters, tender letters, and other legal writings.
  • Maintain case calendars and accurately track attorneys' due dates.
  • Establish and maintain a filing system for legal documents and correspondence.
  • Oversee the records management program for the RTC.
  • Process and respond to requests for public records in compliance with NRS guidelines.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in law, criminal justice, or public administration.
  • Five (5) years of full-time law-related work experience under the supervision of an attorney or a juris doctor.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class C Driver's License.
