About the position

The Senior Paralegal role at RBC provides essential litigation support to the Legal Department's litigation attorneys and outside counsel, specifically for the U.S. Wealth Management group, which comprises approximately 5,000 employees located in Minneapolis and across the country. This position is pivotal in managing various legal processes and ensuring that all documentation and support are meticulously organized and prepared for litigation, arbitration, and regulatory matters. In this role, the Senior Paralegal will be responsible for a wide range of tasks including the preparation of pleadings, motions, and discovery documents. This involves researching, collecting, organizing, reviewing, and analyzing documents from the firm, opponents, and third parties. The paralegal will report the results of their analysis to in-house counsel and collaborate with them to draft initial pleadings and responses to discovery requests. Maintaining accurate records of documents produced and preparing materials for expert witnesses are also key responsibilities. The Senior Paralegal will assist in mediation by drafting mediation statements and organizing key exhibits. They will also provide trial and hearing support by preparing trial exhibits and assisting during witness preparation and hearings. Legal and factual research will be performed as necessary, and the paralegal will respond to regulatory inquiries and prepare appropriate correspondence. Coordination with in-house counsel, third-party vendors, and outside counsel is essential to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The role also includes maintaining litigation databases, calendars, and files, as well as producing statistical and substantive reports on litigation as requested. The paralegal will manage the intake and closure of litigation matters, ensuring compliance with subpoenas and understanding the legal documents involved in these processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-house litigation support to the RBC Legal Department litigation attorneys and outside counsel.
  • Research, collect, organize, review, and analyze documents related to litigation, arbitration, and regulatory matters.
  • Prepare initial drafts of pleadings and motions, and draft preliminary responses to discovery requests.
  • Maintain accurate records of documents produced and organize materials for expert witnesses.
  • Assist with drafting mediation statements and prepare key exhibits for mediation.
  • Prepare and organize trial exhibits and assist at witness preparation and hearings.
  • Perform legal and factual research as necessary and respond to regulatory inquiries.
  • Coordinate with in-house counsel, third-party vendors, and outside counsel for efficiency and cost savings.
  • Maintain litigation databases, calendars, pleadings, and other litigation files.
  • Record receipt of incoming litigation and regulatory matters, and determine claims asserted.
  • Ensure compliance with subpoenas and monitor the process of collecting and producing documents.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree and/or paralegal certificate.
  • 2+ years of paralegal experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • General knowledge of database organization and structure.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage a large volume of detailed tasks.
  • Ability to take initiative and work creatively.
