About the position

The Paralegal position at Simon Property Group is designed to provide essential transactional support to the attorneys within the Legal Development department. This role is pivotal in ensuring that legal processes related to real estate transactions are executed efficiently and accurately. The successful candidate will engage in a variety of tasks that require a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of legal documentation and procedures. The primary responsibilities include the review and analysis of various legal documents such as leases, reciprocal easement agreements, operating agreements, and partnership agreements. The paralegal will be tasked with preparing research results summary memos and results matrices in collaboration with assigned attorneys and developers. This involves a thorough examination of restrictive covenants that govern land use and other critical aspects of real estate transactions. In addition to document analysis, the role requires the timely drafting and preparation of initial drafts of real estate documents, including purchase and sale agreements, ground leases, and closing documents. The paralegal will work closely with attorneys to ensure that all documents meet legal standards and are prepared in accordance with the necessary timelines. The position also involves managing title and survey matters, where the paralegal will review title encumbrances and assist in resolving any objections that arise during due diligence investigations. Furthermore, the paralegal will maintain the computerized file database and hard copy files, ensuring that all matters are opened, updated, and closed promptly. This includes tracking critical dates, reviewing invoices, and preparing various reports as requested by attorneys and other stakeholders. Overall, this role is integral to the smooth operation of the Legal Development department, requiring a combination of legal knowledge, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while supporting a team of attorneys.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze legal documents such as leases, reciprocal easement agreements, and partnership agreements.
  • Prepare research results summary memos and results matrices in consultation with assigned attorneys and developers.
  • Draft and prepare initial drafts of real estate documents including purchase and sale agreements and closing documents.
  • Work closely with assigned attorneys to review title encumbrances and land survey items.
  • Assist in the resolution of title and survey objections during due diligence investigations.
  • Maintain the computerized file database and hard copy files, ensuring timely updates and closures.
  • Input and track all critical and procedurally important dates.
  • Review and approve invoices in TyMetrix and other tracking systems.
  • Prepare check requests and routine correspondence as needed.
  • Prepare reports covering various items as requested by attorneys, auditors, partners, and lenders.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years applicable legal experience preferred, but not required.
  • Paralegal Certificate, Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree required.
  • Real Estate/Title experience and knowledge of legal procedures preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to articulate research results accurately.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally in all forms of communication.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Knowledge of corporate entities and business organizations helpful.
  • Prior real estate development experience helpful.
