The primary duties include reviewing case files to identify necessary documents and witnesses, drafting and analyzing legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and discovery requests. This role requires the preparation of expert witness designations, deposition summaries, legal memoranda, jury instructions, and subpoenas. Additionally, the paralegal will assist during trials, hearings, and council meetings, utilizing litigation and document management software as well as e-Discovery tools to ensure the accuracy and responsiveness of documents. The position also involves collecting and compiling technical information to provide independent recommendations to the supervising attorney, communicating with court personnel, law enforcement, and other government agencies, and conducting legal and procedural research. The paralegal will be responsible for cite-checking legal memoranda and motions, and performing other duties as assigned. The current vacancy is within the Office of the City Attorney, specifically for the Civil Division, although this recruitment may also fill positions in the Criminal Division. Candidates should be aware that employees in this role are expected to complete mandatory continuing legal education (MCLE) every two years, including courses in legal ethics and specialized law.
