About the position

The Paralegal at Steptoe & Johnson PLLC plays a crucial role in assisting attorneys with substantive legal work and managing day-to-day legal needs. The ideal candidate will have experience in Insurance Defense Litigation and will be responsible for maintaining billable hours, drafting documentation, and supporting legal actions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain annual billable hour goal of 1,440 hours.
• Communicate with attorney and/or client to take instructions, obtain information, and report on the status of matters.
• Work with attorneys to draft and prepare all documentation required for various types of transactions.
• Perform clerical work in preparing documents when necessary.
• Organize, maintain, review, summarize, and analyze documents and records, compile information, and recommend a course of action.
• Locate and obtain Circuit and Magistrate Court records.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of statutes, court decisions, and customs relating to legal procedures and practices.
• Assist attorneys in the preparation of filings pertaining to specific areas of law.
• Request and gather copies of documents from various sources as necessary.
• Conduct investigations as necessary.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or advanced paralegal certificate or relevant job experience required.
• Prior law firm experience is required.
