About the position

The Paralegal - Real Estate at AMH plays a crucial role in supporting the legal team, specifically assisting the AVP-Counsel, VP-Counsel, and SVP-Counsel in various legal activities. This position is integral to the management of legal documentation and processes related to property management and tenant disputes. The paralegal will be responsible for preparing discovery materials and files, drafting preliminary documents, and engaging in fact-finding both internally and externally. The role requires a proactive approach to managing legal tasks and ensuring that all documentation is accurate and organized. In this position, the paralegal will support attorneys in handling disputes and litigation, particularly those related to property management and tenant escalations. This includes creating and maintaining tracking sheets, organizing information and documents, and assisting with various projects as assigned. The paralegal will also be involved in the research and compilation of information pertinent to disputes, including the management of Electronically Stored Information (ESI). Communication is key, as the paralegal will need to liaise with various departments within the company, as well as communicate with tenants, vendors, and outside counsel. Additionally, the paralegal will provide support in invoicing, correspondence, and compliance matters. They will manage and track various programs, including contracts, licensing, and corporate formations, ensuring that all legal processes are followed and documented appropriately. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of the legal department and supporting the overall mission of AMH to provide a seamless leasing experience for residents.

Responsibilities

  • Support attorneys and Legal Department regarding disputes and litigation related to property management, tenant disputes, and escalations.
  • Create and maintain various tracking sheets, organize information and documents, and support various projects as assigned.
  • Assist in the research, discovery, and compilation of information relative to disputes and litigation including Electronically Stored Information (ESI).
  • Draft certain preliminary documents/correspondence for attorney review.
  • Communicate internally with various departments; communicate externally with tenants, vendors, and outside counsel.
  • Provide support in areas of invoicing, correspondence, and compliance.
  • Manage and track a variety of programs including contracts, licensing, and corporate formations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of law firm or comparable experience required.
  • Experience in drafting correspondence, proofreading, corporate formation preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and office-related software required.
  • General comfort with technology and the ability to learn and use Company platforms.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Active Notary Public, or willingness and ability to obtain Notary credentials required.
  • Familiarity with electronic law firm billing and matter management systems preferred.
  • Experience in landlord/tenant or property management preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, problem-solving, planning and analysis skills.
  • Strong relationship management, organizational and customer service skills.
  • Must be highly organized and able to follow and establish organizational systems.
  • Must be proactive in handling matters and able to reliably follow through independently.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in office on a weekly basis.
  • PC skills.
