About the position

Fred Loya Insurance is seeking a dedicated Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join our legal team. Established in 1974, we have grown to become one of the largest Hispanic-owned and operated companies in the United States, specializing in providing fast and dependable auto insurance services. As a Paralegal/Legal Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our in-house counsel by delivering high-quality administrative legal support. Your primary responsibilities will include organizing and maintaining case files, managing the legal calendar, and ensuring that all deadlines are met. You will also be responsible for drafting legal documents, interfacing with clients and court personnel, and conducting electronic filings. This position requires a proactive and organized individual who can work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment. In this role, you will be expected to keep cases organized by establishing and maintaining files, reviewing and documenting incoming mail and faxes, and scheduling depositions, mediations, and hearings. You will also be tasked with collecting and analyzing information relevant to cases, as well as drafting standard letters and legal documents. The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED and have a minimum of three years of experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant. Bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish are a plus, as they will enhance your ability to interface with a diverse clientele. A pleasant personality and professional appearance are essential, as you will be representing the company in various interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality professional administrative legal support to in-house counsel.
  • Establish and organize case files, ensuring all documents are properly maintained.
  • Maintain and review the legal calendar, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Document actions and input information into the file database software.
  • Draft legal documents and standard letters as required.
  • Interface with clients, claims adjusters, court clerks, and court reporters.
  • Review, document, and distribute mail and faxes.
  • Schedule depositions, mediations, and hearings, and conduct electronic filing.
  • Assist in the preparation of cases for trial and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Paralegal/Legal Assistant is required.
  • Knowledge of opening new files, answering discovery, and filing motions-pleadings is essential.
  • Proficient in proper telephone etiquette and maintaining and scheduling appointments for attorneys.
  • Must be computer literate and able to draft legal documents and letters.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish are a plus.
