About the position

Evans & Dixon is currently seeking to add an experienced Paralegal to our expanding & fast-paced Kansas City office. As a Paralegal, you will be responsible for handling and maintaining cases from start to finish. You will provide legal support to the attorneys, organize and maintain case files, manage caseload requirements, and monitor timelines and billing. There is frequent court contact and medical record review and analysis. Successful candidates will have a durable work ethic, superior ability to multitask, and enjoy working in a fast-paced and intellectually stimulating setting. In this role, you will participate in all phases of the litigation process from the initiation of a case, through trial and post-trial findings and appeals. You will gain valuable and real-world legal experience by working alongside experienced attorneys practicing in state and federal courts in the Midwest. Responsibilities

  • Handle and maintain cases from start to finish.
  • Provide legal support to attorneys.
  • Organize and maintain case files.
  • Manage caseload requirements and monitor timelines and billing.
  • Review and summarize medical records, creating chronologies of medical records.
  • File and organize exhibits, briefs, appeals, and other legal documents with the court or opposing counsel.
  • Assist attorney(s) in preparation for hearings and trials by preparing arguments, motions, contracts, and agreements.
  • Summarize interrogatories, testimonies, and depositions.
  • Aid attorney(s) by calling clients, witnesses, lawyers, and outside parties to schedule interviews, meetings, and depositions.
  • Support attorney(s) by obtaining affidavits and other formal legal documents, reviewing trial transcriptions, and monitoring attorney's deadlines and calendars.

Requirements

  • One to three plus years of experience in personal injury or medical malpractice.
  • Comfortable utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to edit and proofread correspondence and legal documents.
  • Knowledge of filing with state and federal courts.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with changing work priorities.
  • Ability to complete and submit billable work.
  • Ability to work professionally and effectively with both internal and external clients on all levels.
