About the position

The Paralegal position at United Federal Credit Union involves providing comprehensive support to the General Counsel in various legal matters, including regulatory compliance, contract management, and litigation. The role requires conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and collaborating with business unit leaders to mitigate legal risks. This position is essential for ensuring that the Credit Union's operations align with applicable laws and regulations while supporting organizational projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct factual and legal research and analysis on various legal issues and regulatory matters as assigned by the General Counsel.
  • Support the General Counsel to ensure that the Credit Union's policies, procedures, and forms comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Lead and participate in various organization-wide projects, including merger and acquisition activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to the organization.
  • Draft, review, format, and revise contracts and legal documents under the direction of the General Counsel.
  • Develop and coordinate legal operations and knowledge management initiatives, including maintaining a database of legal procedures and documents.
  • Provide guidance to business unit leaders on legal requests and account management matters.
  • Provide administrative support to the General Counsel in litigation matters, including case management and communication with outside counsel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certificate from an accredited organization.
  • At least 5-7 years of paralegal experience at a financial services company or law firm in areas related to corporate law or financial services.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, negotiating, consulting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including listening and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple, high-priority projects with attention to detail.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, understanding business plans and goals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in corporate law or financial services is preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and legal risk management.
