About the position

Nicholas J. Ryan & Associates, in-house counsel for State Farm Insurance Companies, is seeking a paralegal to join their BI/UM team. This role involves supporting attorneys in insurance defense litigation, requiring knowledge of discovery procedures, local court rules, and excellent communication skills. The position offers a hybrid work environment in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and emphasizes teamwork and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys with file handling using knowledge of discovery and litigation processes.
• Draft routine pleadings, discovery, motions, and other documents as assigned by attorneys.
• Collect and review medical records in assigned files, utilizing understanding of medical terminology and typical injuries.
• Develop skills in trial presentation technology to assist attorneys in trial preparation and presentation.

Requirements

• Prior litigation or paralegal experience is required.
• Paralegal degree/certificate/certification, medical training, or relevant coursework or legal studies degree is required.
• 3+ years of paralegal Discovery and trial experience, preferably in Insurance Defense.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
• Strong software and technological skills are required.
• Experience working in a paperless, fast-paced environment where work is time-sensitive.
