About the position

Our Portland office has the opportunity for a Paralegal to join the firm's expanding practice. On a day to day basis, the Paralegal researches law, investigates facts, and prepares documents to assist attorneys. Under general supervision, the Paralegal researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes to prepare legal documents, such as briefs, pleadings, and appeals for review, approval, and use by attorneys. This role is essential in ensuring that all legal documentation is accurate and timely, which is crucial for the success of the firm's legal proceedings. The Paralegal will be responsible for summarizing legal documents, organizing and indexing case files, determining and calendaring deadlines, and performing a wide variety of legal research and data compilation. Additionally, the Paralegal will file pleadings with the court clerk, prepare reports, correspondence, declarations, and complaints, and draft a variety of legal documents. The role also involves preparing affidavits or documents and maintaining document files, as well as preparing for mediations and trials. The Paralegal will assist attorneys at trial and in preparation for depositions, and will communicate with witnesses and experts as needed. Scheduling and entering billing and expense data into the firm's system in a timely manner are also key responsibilities of this position.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certification / degree from accredited college or university preferred.
  • 1+ years of paralegal or combination of paralegal and legal secretary experience.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Lexis-Nexis and WestLaw, Document Management System, expense and billing systems.
