About the position

The Office of the Tennessee Attorney General and Reporter is seeking a Paralegal to join the Civil Law Division. This division is responsible for handling personal injury and tort litigation involving the State, which includes cases in the Tennessee Claims Commission and state court. The role also encompasses civil rights actions against state employees who are sued individually for monetary damages in either federal or state court, as well as workers' compensation actions filed by state employees. The Paralegal will play a crucial role in supporting attorneys by managing case-related tasks and ensuring that all legal documents are prepared and filed correctly. In this position, the Paralegal will maintain case calendar deadlines, produce pleadings and proposed orders for attorney review, and review form documents for clerical errors or mistakes. The role requires electronic filing of documents to the appropriate courts and maintaining electronic case files and data. The Paralegal will also keep detailed notes on the electronic case management system and handle the process of service for lawsuits. Additionally, the Paralegal will be responsible for contacting opposing counsels to determine the status of settlements and agreed orders, along with other responsibilities as determined by the deputy. The ideal candidate will possess a four-year degree or a paralegal certification, demonstrating a solid foundation in legal principles and practices. This full-time position is based in Nashville, TN, and operates on a Monday to Friday schedule, requiring in-person attendance. Responsibilities
