About the position

Quintairos, Prieto, Wood and Boyer, one of the nation's largest minority and women-owned law firms, is seeking a paralegal to join our expanding office in Denver. This position is integral to our medical malpractice litigation team and general insurance defense litigation team. The selected individual will work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and clients, contributing to a dynamic and fast-paced litigation environment. The ideal candidate will possess defense litigation experience, strong organizational skills, and a desire to thrive in a challenging setting. Experience with insurance claim files, medical records, and managing voluminous documents is preferred. This role offers a flexible work environment with remote options available, making it an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to grow within a national firm. In this hands-on position, the paralegal will be responsible for organizing and analyzing documentary evidence, including medical records, reports, depositions, discovery, claims files, and other relevant documents. The role involves preparing and tracking subpoenas and other requests for records, as well as drafting correspondence and other written documents under attorney direction. The paralegal will also conduct research and investigations of witnesses and experts, communicate with clients, and monitor case files to proactively identify next steps. Additionally, the paralegal will support attorneys with trial preparation tasks, including preparing exhibits and notebooks for trial. This position requires a proactive approach and the ability to handle sensitive issues and materials related to ongoing cases.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and analyze documentary evidence including medical records, reports, depositions, discovery, claims files, and other documents.
  • Prepare and handle tracking and disposition of subpoenas and other requests for records and information.
  • Prepare chronologies and summaries as requested.
  • Draft and prepare correspondence and other written documents under attorney direction.
  • Conduct research and investigation of witnesses and experts.
  • Communicate with clients, witnesses, and experts.
  • Monitor files and proactively identify next steps in cases to discuss with attorneys.
  • Handle highly sensitive issues and materials related to cases in a timely manner.
  • Assist attorneys with trial preparation tasks including preparing exhibits, notebooks, and demonstrative aides for trial.
  • Collaborate with associates and partners assigned to files to provide a collaborative team approach for each case.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of prior paralegal experience assisting attorneys in insurance defense and medical malpractice litigation matters.
  • Experience handling subpoenas and responding to discovery requests.
  • Experience analyzing records to identify and mark information for redaction.
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Word, Adobe, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Critical thinking skills and superior communication and organizational skills.
  • Decisive judgment and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Paralegal certificate is a plus.
  • Experience capturing billable time is a plus.
