About the position

RumbergerKirk is seeking a Paralegal with a strong background in civil defense litigation. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in various aspects of case management, including document production, working with experts, reviewing medical records, and preparing medical chronologies. The role requires proficiency in discovery investigation, drafting discovery responses, and trial preparation, with a solid understanding of both State and Federal court procedures. Candidates must demonstrate exceptional oral and written communication skills, the ability to manage and prioritize a large caseload, and the capability to work effectively within a team environment while maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive case and client information. In this position, the Paralegal will be responsible for managing documents by obtaining, organizing, reviewing, and summarizing them as needed for cases. This includes assisting in document production by organizing and indexing records, as well as drafting requests for medical, employment, and other pertinent records. The Paralegal will also prepare outlines and narrative summaries for medical records for internal use and presentation, and maintain a Summation database on a case-by-case basis. Additionally, the role involves assisting in discovery investigations, preparing indexes to depositions, drafting pleadings, and monitoring the production of necessary records. The Paralegal will be required to travel to accident scenes and meet with witnesses as directed by attorneys, as well as check attorneys' calendars for upcoming depositions and conferences. The position also entails preparing accurate time sheets in accordance with client guidelines, creating demonstrative aids for mediations and trials, and preparing PowerPoint presentations. The Paralegal will attend mediations with attorneys, prepare witness and exhibit disclosures, and coordinate trial teams. Furthermore, the role includes assisting in the training of new hires and providing coverage for other paralegals as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain, organize, review, and summarize documents in cases.
  • Assist in document production by organizing, reviewing, and indexing records.
  • Draft requests to obtain medical, employment, and other pertinent records.
  • Organize and prepare outlines and narrative summaries for medical records for internal use and presentation.
  • Prepare medical chronologies.
  • Set up and maintain Summation database on a case-by-case basis.
  • Assist in discovery investigation by preparing indexes to depositions and deposition exhibits.
  • Draft discovery and pleadings including interrogatories, requests for admissions, and requests for production.
  • Monitor the production of necessary records and contact witnesses, investigators, experts, and other interested parties as necessary.
  • Travel to accident scenes and impound yards to photograph evidence as directed by attorney.
  • Travel to meet with and interview witnesses as directed by partner.
  • Schedule and attend pre-deposition conferences and depositions.
  • Check attorneys' calendars for upcoming depositions, conferences, mediations, etc.
  • Communicate with attorneys regarding materials needed.
  • Periodically review correspondence file for updates on case status.
  • Prepare accurate time sheets in accordance with client guidelines and firm procedure.
  • Prepare demonstrative aids for mediations and trials.
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations for mediations and attend mediations with attorney.
  • Prepare witness and exhibit disclosures and attend exhibit reviews with attorney.
  • Prepare trial notebooks and trial exhibits.
  • Coordinate and supervise trial teams and attend trial.
  • Assist in training of new hires and provide coverage for other paralegals as necessary.

Requirements

  • A.S. degree in paralegal studies and a paralegal certificate or a B.A. in paralegal studies or other field.
  • 5+ years of law firm experience.
  • Ability to produce accurate work product in a timely manner.
  • Team player with creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Freedom to travel as needed.
