About the position

Strong & Hanni, established in 1888, is one of Utah's most respected and experienced law firms, known for its trial practice in both state and federal courts. The firm offers a wide range of legal services, including commercial litigation, corporate representation, general business, securities, tax, employment law, construction law, governmental liability, family law, product liability, and professional liability. We are currently seeking a knowledgeable, talented, and driven Paralegal to join our insurance defense practice group. This position will provide direct assistance to attorneys throughout all stages of litigation and trial work, including the preparation of necessary documents for litigation. The ideal candidate will have experience in personal injury or prior insurance defense work, and will work from our Salt Lake City, Utah office. As a Litigation Paralegal, you will be responsible for preparing, collecting, summation, and organizing information, data, and evidence for use by attorneys in hearings or trials. You will prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, and interrogatories, and assist lawyers by researching legal precedents, investigating facts, and preparing legal documents. Your role will also involve conducting research to support legal proceedings, formulating defenses, and initiating legal actions. You will be tasked with the preparation and organization of case research, notes, medical records, legal documents, and client materials, as well as gathering and analyzing research data such as statutes, decisions, and legal articles. Accuracy is crucial, as you will verify documents, edit and proofread legal documents, and research medical records and public and private records. Additionally, you will perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the legal team.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing, collecting, summation and organizing the information, data and evidence for use by attorneys in hearings or trials.
  • Prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, and interrogatories.
  • Assist lawyers by researching legal precedent, investigating facts, and preparing legal documents.
  • Conduct research to support a legal proceeding, to formulate a defense, cause of action, and to initiate legal proceedings.
  • Preparation and organization of case research, notes, medical records, legal documents, and client materials.
  • Gather and analyze research data, such as statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, and documents.
  • Verify documents for accuracy, editing and proofreading legal documents; researching medical records, public and private records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have experience in drafting complaints, motions, answers, and other pleadings.
  • Knowledge of the local rules of court, perform legal research, correspondence, etc.
  • Needs to be well organized and have a professional presentation.
  • Excellent computer and organizational skills.
