State Farm is seeking a dedicated and skilled paralegal to join our BI/UM team within Nicholas J. Ryan & Associates, the in-house counsel for State Farm Insurance Companies. As a paralegal, you will play a crucial role in assisting attorneys with various legal tasks, particularly in the realm of Insurance Defense. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Insurance Defense Discovery procedures and litigation processes, as well as familiarity with local court rules. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with strong technological proficiency. Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with file handling using knowledge of discovery and litigation processes.
  • Draft routine pleadings, discovery, motions, and other documents as assigned by attorneys.
  • Collect and review medical records in assigned files, utilizing understanding of medical terminology and typical injuries.
  • Develop skills in trial presentation technology to assist attorneys in trial preparation and presentation.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while working in a team-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • Prior litigation or paralegal experience is required.
  • A paralegal degree, certificate, or certification is necessary.
  • Medical training or relevant coursework in legal studies is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of paralegal Discovery and trial experience, preferably in Insurance Defense.
  • Basic knowledge of civil procedure and the ability to draft legal documents is essential.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and records is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Plaintiff's personal injury cases is a plus.
  • Familiarity with trial presentation technology is beneficial.
