About the position

The Paramedic position at Sanford Health involves providing advanced medical care and emergency treatment in pre-hospital settings. Paramedics are responsible for assessing patients, administering lifesaving interventions, and ensuring safe transportation to medical facilities. This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to work in high-pressure situations, and a commitment to ongoing education and training in emergency medical services.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate competency in trauma and medical situations.
  • Administer emergency care and treatment to patients.
  • Determine the nature and extent of illness or injury and establish priority for required emergency care.
  • Provide advanced medical care to patients, including adults, infants, and children.
  • Constantly assess the patient while in route to the emergency facility and administer additional care as needed.
  • Observe, record, and report to physician the patient's condition, treatment provided, and reactions to drugs or treatment.
  • Maintain communication with the receiving facility to provide patient's status and critical information.
  • Complete extensive written documentation on patient condition and treatment provided.
  • Assist with patient care in the receiving facility, including lifting and moving patients as required.
  • Attend training classes to maintain national certification and state licensure.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates Degree in Paramedic Technology or Paramedicine preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of paramedic principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Hold national registry status at a Paramedic level.
  • Valid Driver's License with a good driving record.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and other advanced certifications preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with various medical equipment such as monitors and defibrillators.
  • Additional licensures as required depending on state regulations.
