About the position

The Paramedic ED position at St. David's North Austin Medical Center involves providing emergency medical care and support to patients in the emergency department. The role requires effective communication with team members and physicians, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining a high level of competence in emergency medical procedures. The Paramedic will be responsible for collecting patient data, facilitating patient flow, and educating patients and their families about care processes.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and convey information regarding the health status of patients to team members and the attending physician.
  • Provide patient safety and maintain competence with the charting system.
  • Maintain good working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, coworkers, and other hospital staff.
  • Collect data and formulate a plan of care for each patient, including expected outcomes.
  • Facilitate the flow of patients through the emergency care system.
  • Involve and educate the patient and/or family in the patient's care.
  • Answer and receive patient reports from emergency medical services on radio.
  • Stock, check, and clean equipment such as stretchers, closets, and cabinets as appropriate.
  • Administer IV fluids and respiratory treatments as necessary.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and advanced cardiac life support as necessary.
  • Assist with various medical procedures including splint application, wound cleaning, and catheter insertion.

Requirements

  • Completion of required coursework/graduation from an accredited school for Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training.
  • Graduate of an Associate's Degree program from an accredited school in Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - preferred.
  • One year of Paramedic experience - preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date.
  • Emergency Medical Paramedic (EMP) or Emergency Medical Technician: Paramedic (EMT-P) certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a multi-specialty hospital setting.
  • Additional certifications in emergency medical services.
