About the position

The Hyperbaric Medicine Program at Corewell Health is dedicated to providing high-quality care through Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). This specialized therapy involves patients breathing 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber, which is crucial for various medical conditions. The program is accredited with distinction by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), ensuring that we adhere to the highest standards of care and patient safety. As a member of the hyperbaric technician team, you will play a vital role in delivering this therapy, ensuring the safety and comfort of our patients while they undergo treatment. In this position, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of hyperbaric and hypobaric chambers, as well as the related equipment. Your duties will include running the chambers, providing patient care, and participating in quality improvement activities and patient experience initiatives. You will also be expected to perform cleaning and maintenance of the hyperbaric chambers as required. This role requires a commitment to patient safety and quality care, as you will be responsible for the administration of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients. Additionally, you will assist with the Wound Healing Program within your scope of practice, adapting to staffing needs as they arise. The position requires participation in on-call weekend duties and a medical examination for clearance to function as an interior chamber attendant. This role is essential in supporting the overall mission of Corewell Health to provide exceptional care to our patients in a safe and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Function as an equal and active member of the hyperbaric technician team, running chambers and providing patient care.
  • Ensure the quality and safety of the administration of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients.
  • Operate and maintain hyperbaric and hypobaric chambers and related equipment.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and patient experience initiatives.
  • Perform hyperbaric chamber operations, cleaning, and maintenance as required.
  • Provide assistance within the Wound Healing Program as determined by staffing needs.
  • Fulfill weekly call requirements and undergo medical examination for clearance as an interior chamber attendant.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved paramedic program.
  • Less than 2 years of experience as a paramedic; 3 years or more preferred.
  • Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program, including a 40-hour Hyperbaric course to be completed through the department within 2 years of hire.
  • Licensed Paramedic in the State of Michigan required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days.
