About the position

Norman Regional EMSSTAT operates 24/7 to provide pre-hospital stabilization and life-saving care on over 30,000 responses each year. The team works closely with medical directors, physicians, and nurses across four Emergency Departments, responding to all 911 medical and trauma emergencies, inter-facility transports, and event standbys. The EMSSTAT team collaborates with Centers for Excellence on STEMI and stroke care, and partners with public safety agencies to deliver a comprehensive range of EMS response capabilities in Moore, Norman, and surrounding areas. The EMSSTAT unit includes specialized teams such as SWAT Medics, an active bike team, and a regional disaster medical response team (DMRT) equipped with a large response trailer. This position requires performing emergency and stabilizing procedures using protocols as directed by the EMS Medical Director, alongside independent judgment. The role involves providing routine and emergency medical care, extrication, and transportation of ill and injured persons, as well as responding to emergency and routine requests for transportation to and from medical facilities. Assessing patients to determine the nature and acuity of illness or injury and administering appropriate medical treatment utilizing independent judgment and established protocols or standing orders is a critical aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Performs emergency and stabilizing procedures using protocols as directed by the EMS Medical Director and independent judgment.
  • Provides routine and emergency medical care, extrication, and transportation of ill and injured persons.
  • Responds to emergency and routine requests for transportation to and from medical facilities.
  • Assesses patient and determines nature and acuity of illness/injury and administers appropriate medical treatment utilizing independent judgment and protocols or standing orders.

Requirements

  • Certificate or Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Technology.
  • Completion of the requirements for licensure (DOT curriculum paramedic program) recognized by the Oklahoma State Department of Health in accordance with EMS regulations.
  • 1+ years experience preferred; no experience required (above requirements can be met by equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Must have and maintain a current Oklahoma Paramedic License.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age in order to be insured by NRH carrier.
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver's license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be obtained within 30 days of hire through the NRHS American Heart Association RQI system and maintained throughout employment.
