About the position

The Paramedic at CHI Saint Joseph East is responsible for providing emergency medical care to patients in the emergency department. This role involves collaboration with a comprehensive care team, including RNs, physicians, and ancillary staff, to ensure high-quality patient care. The Paramedic will perform critical interventions, document patient care, and promote patient independence through education and support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency medical care under physician oversight following the National EMS Scope of Practice Model.
  • Administer BLS, PALS, ACLS, and critical care interventions as directed by the attending physician.
  • Perform triage, assessments, interventions, and patient education as necessary.
  • Document patient care services in a timely manner in patient and department records.
  • Promote patient independence by establishing rapport and teaching self-care skills to patients and their families.
  • Provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients.
  • Identify self as a licensed paramedic while operating in the field.
  • Adhere to all CHI Saint Joseph Health policies, protocols, procedures, and regulations.
  • Pursue professional growth and development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate from a nationally/state approved accrediting paramedic program.
  • Unrestricted Kentucky Paramedic License.
  • Active BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications from the American Heart Association.
  • 2 years of experience as a paramedic in high volume patient care services, approved Critical Care endorsement, or previous aeromedical/clinical ER experience.
